Day 7 - Coffee Bay to Amanzimtoti

We were up early, for us that is about 06H30, and were ready to leave by 07H30. The road out was not as stressful as coming in. I think that was partly due to it being a public holiday as there were only a few taxis on the road. It was also easier to see the potholes due to the angle of the sun. The potholes end after 35 km and then the road is a lot better. They are busy fixing the road so hopefully it will be a better road all the way.
We fueled up, pumped the tyres, and bought a bacon roll and coffee in Mthatha (Umtata). It was a slow drive through the city with the many traffic lights and speed bumps. After that it was just uphill and downhill for hours and hours and hours. When you work out the average speed for the day, including stops, it works out to 62km/h which is quite amazing. 500km, 8 hours.
Temperatures outside the car were also hitting the 40s and Amanzimtoti is still 30 degrees at 20H00.
L:  Actually, the temperature climbed to 46 degrees and the height above sea-level was 1 800m at one stage, that combined to make me feel rather strange and still in Toti, I am feeling rather light-headed.  Steve, however, feels no difference.
We met up with Heather at the Protea Hotel. She had had a good flight up and the hotel they are staying in is really nice. It was soooo nice to walk in to air-conditioned comfort.
We are staying in a bachelor flat in a block about a kilometer from the beach where the SA Lifesaving competition is taking place. We have heard that SA Lifesaving is not sponsoring any Cape Town judges to come up to Durban to assist so there is now a shortage of judges on the beach. It is going to be interesting to see how long it is going to take to get through all the events.
Lesley was having sushi withdrawal symptoms to we had to fish out the local John Dorys at the mall. Fortunately for us Wednesday was half price sushi night.
Anyway we will be in Amanzimtoti, on the beach, for the next 3 days.
L:  Life-Saving often takes the whole day for 3 days so we will try to update as and when we can.  Thanks once again for all the comments, we are really enjoying ourselves and are glad you guys enjoy us sharing our time away from home.
As we are typing this in our flat, we look out from time to time with all the noise and it is no surprise to find that the only ones making a noise in Toti are the Life-Savers.  They have initiation and so we are seeing a lot of bare bottoms……..More to follow.  Cheers for now. X

Along the way .......
