Day 8 - On the beach at Amanzimtoti

Lesley:  Well, that was a night!!  And Steve slept through it all, once again, that man can sleep…..zzzz.  It was so hot and our little bachelor flat has a front window (on to the beachfront) for air-con, and a fan or two.  In Toti, this clearly does not do the job, but cheap accommodation so we cannot moan, it is clean and tidy.  Just to give you an idea, when we got into the bakkie today at 8am – it was 28 degrees!!  I can only imagine what it was during the night…..
So, I hardly slept and in the early hours of the morning the wind picked up, something chronic.  I thought the windows would smash, you guessed it – Steve slept through it all.
We left for the beach, which is so close, but we drove as we had all the chairs, umbrella, cooler boxes etc for the day.
Heather’s first race was a Knee-board heat where she did pretty well coming in 4th in the heat so got in to the final for later that day.  She also did a mixed double ski race with Lyle, but although they made the final, there were not enough clubs skis so they forfeited the final.
Heather came in a very respectable 5th for her board race which was nail-biting, with her team mates coming in 2nd, 3rd and 4th ,but the Board Relay race was incredible with Fish Hoek first team winning and Fish Hoek second team, which Heather was in, coming ahead of all the other clubs in SA to bag the silver.  It was an amazing race, well done to Heather, Samantha and Shelley.
Lyle, Heather’s boyfriend, also had a great day with a silver medal in Individual Board and a silver for the Board Relay too, well done!!
S: I have managed to figure out how to use my phone as a modem so we do not have to run around trying to find places with wi-fi or internet cafes.
It was nice to get off the beach, do some shopping, and then home for a pasta, cold drink and bed.
